Message: The theater in the shopping center across from Eagle Run Road on Rt. 273 was at one time an "Art" Theater. I forgot the name of it.

The old Rialto Theater was also an "ART" Theater prior to closing.

Message: Back in my day, the Edgemoor specialized in showing elegant foreign movies in a very nice setting. A NON-foreign film I did see there back in those days (1952) was especially produced by the duPont Company for its friends and employees, on the occasion of the Company's 100th Anniversary. Many of the exterior scenes in the film were shot near the Hagley Museum. A number of recognizable Hollywood character actors, such as Eduard Franz, Luis Van Rooten and Charles Lane, portrayed various members of the duPont Dynasty.
It was actually quite interesting and well done.
...a far cry from "Deep Throwt."

It was the Edgemoor. Parents of a friend of mine went to see it thinking it was an "art" film. They lasted about five minutes before leaving. The Edgemoor was the theatre that had the glassed in smoking seats.

opened the Connell Street Music Hall at 224 N. Connell
St.. It later became the West End Theatre in 1914.
Don't have any information on it being a Dance Hall,
Unless that is what it was when it was called the
Connell Street Music Hall. I was on the WPD from 1959
till 1981 and all I remember it being is a warehouse.

Message: Hi Mr Webmaster
These recent snow storms reminded me of the trucks that used to sand the bus routes in the 1940s and 50s. Delaware Coach had ther own trucks complete with the green and yellow paint and the DCCO logo. I was wondering when you did the transportation research if you saw or knew where there are old photos of those trucks.
I just remember they did not look like the trucks currently used by the state.
Take care
George

Message: To Mike R --- boy do I remember Chicken Delight! My first job was at the Chick Del at the Graylyn Shopping Center, Graylyn Crest. My job was to dip in batter and put on trays for baking 800 pounds of chicken each shift, plus make the coleslaw. I lasted 3 weeks!

Does anyone remember glueing ourselves to the radio each Saturday night (9PM-1AM, I think), to WAMS, to listen to Ralph McKinney's Request Show? Ralph used to do oldies shows in Wilmington .. anyone know if he is still around (and alive!)?

I found out the other day that DART no longer gives out transfers. What a shame! I used to pay one fare and then transfer for free, riding all over New Castle County --- as a 13 year old kid. Wasn't it wonderful what we could safely do then that we wouldn't even dream of doing now (as a kid or as an adult!).
