He was engaged at the time to Peg Kelley who lived on 23rd St between Tatnall and West. The store sold all sort of groceries and fresh meat, chickens, and had a terrific penny candy counter. It was truly "Old Wilmington" as I remember it.The McMillans were originally from downstate. I believe the father was Bill, the mother was Ruby. They had all boys, Billy and a set of darling twins. Message: My absolute favorite night spot in the Wilmington area was "Cedar Inn". I believe it was on Naaman's Road. My husband (then my boyfriend) and I used to go there back in the 50's. No band, just a jukebox. Our favorite waiter was "Greenie". Seven and seven was 75 cents. For you youngsters that was Seagrams Seven and Seven-UP. Those were the days!

Message: Swifty and Jerry T. the Anvil Inn was on of my hangouts in the early 70's. Monday Night $3.00 to get in and you'd get drink tickets with a mug of beer being .50c. THey always had a band that would be there all week. I went by there a few years ago and it was gone. The Chadds Ford Tavern down on Rt 1 was another good place, friendly people. I believe it is still there.
Anybody care to name some old favorite watering holes?

Message: I spent some time at the Horse & Buggy in the mid 60's. Micholob drafts were 25 cents and they had a great hot pastrami sandwich for less than a dollar. I was working at the Bank of Delaware at the time, so even those prices were a lot of money. I also remember going up the Anvil Inn after the Delaware bars closed at midnight.

Message: Bruce, The Buggy Tavern was located on Marsh Rd. it is closed and has been for a few years. Friends and I use to go there on Tuesday night in the late 70's early 80's. Later it became a Bikers hang out, lot of fights, not my type of place to go anymore.

Message: During the 1950s, I was a member of Boy Scout Troop #65 in Elsmere. Every once in a while the troop would meet at the Elsmere Presbyterian Church (the sponsor) and we would drive out to a place near the old Workhouse Farms where the fathers would drop us off. We then would hike into a woods and set up camp near a creek or stream. We called it Camp Burkey (sp). Does anyone know of such a place back then??

Message: Is ths buggy tavern still on Marsh Rd. They used to sponsor a great outdoor party early in summer at the Girl Scout camp around Limestone Rd. $10.00 for all the beer and food you could eat. Plus live music. I remember seeing Rockett 88 with Dr. Harmonica (Mark Keneally) there one year.

Web Master - Sorry I got caught and responded to Harry M - Glad you have the power to block.
