The Strawbridge & Clothier Department Store in the Merchandise Mart, north of Wilmington, was built in 1951, around the same time as the John Wanamaker store on the Augustine Cut-Off. The store was closed in the 1980s when a store opened in the Concord Mall. The Mart store still stands vacant in the now closed Merchants Square. However, in early April, 2009, demolition began. The following group of photos depicts the progress of the destruction. The photos are from my personal collection along with those submitted by Keith Webb and John Fitzpatrick.
